Petro Jacyk Central & East European Resource Centre
The Petro Jacyk Resource Centre was created in 1995 to support the activities of the Centre for European, Russian and Eurasian Studies and the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at the University of Toronto.Located in the Robarts Library Building, it is named after Petro Jacyk, a Toronto businessman and philanthropist who donated the initial funds. Its mandate is to support study and research on all the countries of East Central Europe, Russia, and Eurasia.
Petro Jacyk's contributions to the Centre have enabled:
- microfilming of the Peter Jacyk Collection of Ukrainian Serials and the endowment to support annual subscriptions to maintain the collection
- purchase, preservation, and digitization of retrospective Ukrainian materials
- a fellowship for projects in the fields of Ukrainian archives, librarianship, information sciences, or bibliography
Mr. Jacyk gave generously to the development of Ukrainian studies at the University of Toronto. The Foundation in his name, the Petro Jacyk Education Foundation, continues this support of Ukrainian scholarship and collections at the University.
