Sigmund Samuel Library
A gift of $500,000 in 1951 from industrialist Sigmund Samuel was the impetus for the construction of the Sigmund Samuel Library, shown here.
The result of over 20 years of planning, the Sigmund Samuel wing of the university library opened in 1954. For many years it served the entire library community. With the opening of the Robarts Library Builidng in 1973, it became an undergraduate library, holding multiple copies of books required by undergraduates. The undergraduate collection moved to Robarts in 1997.
Still known as the Sigmund Samuel Library Building, it now houses part of the Gerstein Science Information Centre.
